Auto's next offering, the K-60 has been christened the Discover.
Based on the Pulsar platform, the Discover will hit the road in early
September with pilot production having already commenced at the firms
Chakan plant. The Discover is expected to be a 125cc machine using the
twin spark plug technology first seen on the Pulsar bikes. Styling is
again derived from the Pulsars though she will have a front bikini fairing
in the mould of the DTS-i Pulsars with the base versions doing with
the round headlamp. Cycle parts are also borrowed from the Pulsars all
of which should make her one of the premium offerings in the ever expanding
125cc segment. Bajaj Auto has big plans for the Discover targeting an
ambitious target of 25,000 units per month within the first six months
of trial production.
TVS MOTOR PROFITS UP DESPITE 'difficult year' - Aug 2004
Two-Wheeler maker TVS Motor which
admitted to undergoing a 'difficult year', registered marginal 4.3%
increase in net sales, at Rs 2,820.2 crore for financial year 2003-04
compared to Rs 2,704.5 crore in the previous year. Its net profit rose
by 8.2% to Rs 138.5 crore. Gross revenue has gone up by 4.8% to Rs 2,856.4
crore boosted by rise in 'other income' to Rs 36 crore. TVS-M turnover
shot up by 40% in 2002-03, the first year after parting ways with Suzuki
, with doubled net profit. However, CMD Venu Srinivasan is optimistic
that their new 4-stroke bike and revamped Victor will rev up sales this
year.
HERO HONDA SIZZLES - Aug 2004
Hero Honda recorded a sales volume
of 6,09,123 motorcycles during the first quarter of 2004-05, registering
a jump of 33% over last year's sale during the corresponding quarter.
In May Hero Honda set a new benchmark for the global two-wheeler industry
by achieving the highest ever sales of 2,12,177 units in a single month.
In fact, in the last nine months, Hero Honda has crossed monthly sales
of 200,000 units five times.
NOVA FOR NORTH AMERICA - Aug 2004
KINETIC Engineering has commenced
exports of the Nova scooter to the United States and Canada after receiving
necessary clearance from the department of transportation, US government.
The Nova has already been homologated and being exported to Europe.
100CC WARS INTENSIFY - Aug 2004
BAJAJ Auto and TVS Motor Company
have launched into a new price war in the bare-bones 100cc segment.
The Boxer AT is now priced at Rs 25,990 (ex-showroom India) while the
TVS Max 100 has dipped to Rs 25,560. Both bikes are stripped down versions
and come with low spec tyres and no battery.
