| Hyderabad: Kinetic Engineering has plans to pump in excitement into the scooter segment with its phased launch of the acquired models of Italjet in the next calendar year, starting January.
The Pune-based two-wheeler major acquired seven models of Italjet scooters in the 75 cc to 250 cc range. Straddling various price points and range, these models are expected to be new segment creators and image creators.
Talking to ET, Kinetic Engineering General Manager (marketing) Ajinkya Firodia said the price points of the new range would be in the region of Rs 25,000 to Rs 75,000 and the image creator segment could even touch Rs 1 lakh.
Kinetic will manufacture these models in India and will also cater to Italjet’s global requirements.
As per our agreement, we will be exporting the seven models to Italjet. We feel that 20% of our production will go to exports,” he added. The Italjet scooters will carry the Kinetic brand name only in India.
Mr Firodia ruled out the possibility of pulling back the company’s existing models like ‘Nova’ once they put the Italjet scooters in the market.
“Traditional scooters will remain our mainstay. Our major consumers will be families and the woman rider. Women and high school/college students account for 50% of sales. These models will remain,” he added.
Kinetic Engineering is also seriously looking at expanding its motorcycle segment marketshare.
Although it entered the motorcycle market only three years ago, the company wants to expand it and capitalise on the growth boom in this segment. |
